Buku-Larrŋgay Mulka is a remote Indigenous Art Centre located in the small coastal community of Yirrkala in North East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. It is celebrated for its large works on Stringybark or Eucalyptus Tetradonta. Opening on Thursday, 17 November is nyumukuniny (little ones): Small bark paintings from Buku-Larrŋgay Mulka Art Centre at Agency.
Conscious of the gaps between seeing and understanding, Tommaso Nervegna-Reed’s work challenges conventional structures, while maintaining an interrogative attitude towards subject matter, materials and how meaning itself is produced. With an ongoing interest in architecture and film, Nervegna-Reed creates speculative works that include video, sculpture, painting, photography and installation, which are informed by the internal logics present in conceptual art.
