We acknowledge the traditional owners and sovereign custodians of the land on which Collingwood Yards is situated, the Wurundjeri people of the Woiwurrung language group. We extend our respect to their Ancestors and all First Peoples and Elders past, present, and future.

We always give full respect to our people, Elders, Culture and Country – and to all peoples with whom we share our land.

DIVERSITY OF FIRST PEOPLES

We respect, celebrate and embrace the cultural diversity of First Peoples, our stories, our Culture and our experiences.

FIRST NATIONS PROTOCOLS AND WAYS OF WORKING

We respect our Peoples, Community and artists by working in accordance with the protocols of our own Community and those on whose Country we are working.

## HISTORY

ILBIJERRI (pronounced ‘il BIDGE er ree) is a Woiwurrung word meaning ‘Coming together for Ceremony’.

ILBIJERRI Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Theatre Cooperative (ILBIJERRI Theatre Company) was formed in 1991 when a group of Melbourne First Nations artists and Community members came together to form a professional theatre company for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Victoria.

Since the company’s inception we have been initiating and developing performances in collaboration with Community and artists. Our plays explore a range of complex and controversial issues from a uniquely First Peoples perspective. Our work possesses the power to reach out and remind audiences of every person’s need for family, history and heritage.
