APY Arts Centre Collective, artist owned Galleries
APY Gallery
The Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands lie in remote Central Australia, at the far northern tip of South Australia. Across this region, a handful Aboriginal owned art centres support the work of more than 500 Anangu artists.
These art centres are the beating heart of APY communities. They are professional studios where culture is celebrated, preserved, and passed on to younger generations under the guidance of respected Elders. Here, some of the most acclaimed and collectable First Nations artists in the country work alongside an exciting new generation of emerging talent.
APY Galleries are an initiative of the APY Art Centre Collective (APYACC) whose vision is for every Anangu person of working age to have culturally affirming work and an independent income. The galleries are not-for-profit returning 80% of the wall price to the art centres it represents.
Collingwood Yards is home to the fourth APY Gallery, joining our spaces in Adelaide, Sydney, and the Docklands. Together, these galleries mark a historic achievement: the first and only Anangu-owned gallery network in the country, establishing a strong and celebrated tri-state presence.
The APY Galleries in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide are Indigenous, artist-owned galleries that exhibit and celebrate the work of early-career Indigenous artists working at art centres across the APY Lands, regional South Australia and Adelaide. Through a dynamic, monthly exhibition program, the APY Galleries showcase a range of artistic mediums, including paintings, ceramics, traditional punu (wood) carvings, weaving (tjanpi), textiles, new media, and photography.
