Rainbow Chan ( b. 1990, Hong Kong, lives and works in Naarm/Melbourne) is a multidisciplinary artist working across sound, painting, weaving, and performance. Starting her career as a pop musician in Eora/Sydney over a decade ago, Rainbow has since delved into the realm of large-scale installations in galleries and museums. Her visual arts practice is interested in notions of authenticity, mistranslations and matrilineal histories. Musically, Rainbow melds catchy melodies and off-kilter beats made up of field-recordings and found sounds. Both heartbreaking and tender, her idiosyncratic brand of pop reflects diasporic experiences and deeply personal tales of love and loss. In 2022, she was recognised in the "40 Under 40: Most Influential Asian Australians Award" for her contribution to arts and culture. She won "Artist of the Year" in the 2022 FBi SMAC Awards. Rainbow teaches songwriting and electronic music production at the tertiary education level. She also sits on the board of 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art.
